why Eco?
 A Changing World

It would be almost impossible for you not to have seen on the news, in the papers or even in the state of the weather that the world's climate is changing.

Why? Well according to scientists we are pumping too much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and creating a thick blanket of gas that is causing the earth to heat up. Our current level of energy use - to power homes, offices, cars and planes - and the resulting level of CO2 emitted is critically and hazardously high.

This cannot be sustained for much longer because finite resources of fossil fuels are running out and because our delicate ecosystem simply cannot cope.

We also pollute our environment in numerous other ways. Toxins and pesticides found in food and household products are gradually working their way into our bodies, potentially affecting our long-term health. Millions of tonnes of waste are building up in already overflowing landfill sites at such a rapid rate that if we continue this way we will soon be drowning in rubbish.

Makes for a somewhat depressing story, doesn't it? So are we all utterly doomed and is it too late? Fortunately not, but we must act now and there are plenty of positive things we can do.

For a start, we can reduce our emissions of CO2 by being more energy efficient. Using low energy light bulbs, switching off heating, lights and electronic equipment, or taking public transport instead of the car are all simple ways to help.

Buying eco-friendly paints, cleaning products and household goods means that we lower our exposure to toxins in our daily home lives.

Buying products from well managed sources means that natural resources aren't depleted as we shop.

And recycling more of our household waste means that we're keeping rubbish out of landfill sites and giving it a useful second life instead.
